Thankfully today it is harder to destroy information, but prior to the modern age, it was too easy. Each of these incidents were a great loss, especially the Library of Alexandria. Technical inventions ahead of time, the same clash of religion and technology. I think it's an interesting thought: where would we be without the dark middle ages?
